Truth

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist…Ephesians 6:13-14 (NIV)

I remember the first time I read the above verses. I sat on an old red velvet cushioned wooden pew at my neighbor’s church during Vacation Bible School. Attentive, I watched as other children displayed decorative cardboard garments to demonstrate the armor of God. When explaining truth, the teacher told us that it meant to never lie and to also know that God’s word is true. And to be honest, I didn’t give it much more thought.

However, this past year, the pursuit of truth has become a passion of mine. After years of believing lies about myself and my value to God, I emerged from a suffocating and grimy pit of rubbish. Brushing off the debris and wiping the mud from my eyes, I was ready to hear, see, and embrace the truth about God’s love for me.

Great job on the article. It was truly uplifting. We do need to rely on the one who is always true and never changing, and not to focus on the lies the devil tempts us with. Thanks for sharing your heart.

I'll have to come back to read the rest since I have to go...just this much is written so well, you way with words always astounds me.

I, too, have battled with believing lies about myself and my value over the years...

God bless!

I love when my kids have Bible lessons on the Armor of God. I actually found a really cool book called "Will the Might Warrior". For my boys.

I really needed to be reminded of this today. I have felt like we are under an attack, and I needed to be reminded of what to do. Sometimes when you are in the midst of it, it can be hard for me to remember what to do. I know that is why it is so IMPORTANT to put on the FULL armour of God every day! Thanks for posting this.

I feel like this where I am. That belt of truth is so crucial to me right now. The shabby ropes of lies you speak of have hung there way too long.

I have so enjoyed reading your thoughts tonight, and seeing that I'm not alone in so much of my journey.

*crying* :) Really, really great Angela. Oh how I have been trying to infuse the TRUTH into my life. It's not easy, but having encouragers along the journey to speak truth into my life is sure helpful! Thank you for being one of them for me. :)

Angela,
Did you know I was on your blog this morning but didn't leave a comment (sitemeter)? And then, you came to mine and gave me that gift? I did more reading than commenting.

I've read Little O, this post "Truth" and the rest at Faith Lifts and your process post of whether or not to step out and be a weekly contributor. I see in all these posts a desire to gain God's perspective in everything He has made you to be and in the opportunities He puts in front of you to magnify Him! What glory He is getting.

Father, today I pray that you would give this writer, mother, and daughter of God the leading and insight into your Word, her life, and her perspective so she can share it in her next Faith Lifts contribution. Life is all about you....she desires to have you as her center in which everything else revolves. Thank you for her vulnerability....it helps her readers truly process our own issues whether they are similar or not. Amen!
