What's love got to do with it?

I'm at Faith Lifts today, so please, come on over.

As of 9:35 EST Faith Lifts has not yet been updated, but it should be up today

Here's a sneak peek--

During a brisk morning walk that doubled as prayer time, I talked with the Lord about some anxiety I carried with being new to my city. While I consider cultivating friendships a joy, I’m always a bit nervous meeting people for the first time. Most of my fears fall under an inferiority complex I hold in the intelligence department.

Did I ever mention that I use to have panic attacks whenever the commercial for the game show Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader aired? Feel free to chuckle at that one. I won’t blame you, but know that I’m not making that up for laughs, it really use to happen. Being married to a college professor, I often feel like I don’t measure up in the brains department. Too often I rely on somewhat witty or cutesy banter to “survive” a department social and then later feel like a fool.

As I brought these fears to the surface of my conversation with God, the following scripture came to mind.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35.

That scripture stopped my feet from moving, because honestly, it didn’t make sense to me in that situation. I was praying for healing and peace regarding my issues, how could love relate to that?

I've got to go read more now. I'm loving this blog place you've got here.

It's still not there, but I'm intrigued by your start! I've missed visiting blogs these past weeks.

Awwww....maybe the Lord was just telling you that all you have to do is be loving towards others in whatever city you are in. Let fear go...let anxiety go...(I know easier said than done)

But loving is truly easy...If we just choose to love others then who cares about our IQ? Some of the most loving people in the world can't speak a sentence but can show you love by opening their arms to hug you!

I don't know either, sweet one, but what I do know...God was talking to you...and isn't that great just in of itself! Yea!

Blessings to you!

Hey Debra...That is pretty much it...the rest of the story is up now if you want to read it...that was just a teaser because it is a post I wrote for a devotional blog so I never post those in their entirety on Becoming Me. :-)

I enjoyed that. I struggle with the same thoughts myself.

I woke up meditating on this again. With every post I read of yours I feel like I have more in common with you. Again, thanks for sharing.

I loved your post today on Faith Lifts. Focusing on love instead of our 'stuff' is going to benefit all those who enter our lives.

I too spend many hours talking to my King while walking. It is such a quiet and peaceful time.

I'm thinking that scripture can apply to almost any aspect of our lives....I'm heading to a new city too!

Angela,
I just had the opportunity to come on over for a visit and also visited Faith Lifts.
How do you always get into my head like that girl??! :)
You are going to get tired of me saying the same things over and over, but truly, this spoke to me volumes today.
I struggle with the exact same issues. My husband and his family all are quite above me in the inelegance department. I get pretty intimidated by those I deem as "way smarter that me". :) That causes anxiety and then a shutting down of sorts. Shutting down leaves no room for love.
Lately I have dealt with several blows to my self esteem and confidence. I know Satan is trying to get me where I am weak. I also know that God is using it in the refining process.
Thanks so much!
