I attended a lovely Christmas concert this past Sunday. This hymn was performed. It's gorgeous with or without music.
Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day
John Gardner
Tomorrow shall be my dancing day;
I would my true love did so chance
To see the legend of my play,
To call my true love to my dance;
Sing, oh! My love, oh! My love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love
Then was I born of a virgin pure,
Of her I took fleshly substance
Thus was I knit to man's nature
To call my true love to dance.
Sing, oh! My love, oh! My love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love
In a manger laid, and wrapped I was
So very poor, this was my chance
Betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass
To call my true love to dance.
Sing, oh! My love, oh! My love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love
Then afterward baptized I was;
The Holy Ghost on me did glance,
My Father's voice heard from above,
To call my true love to my dance.
Sing, oh! My love, oh! My love, my love, my love,
This have I done for my true love

Sounds like a great song!
So very beautiful are the lyrics!
AHHHHHHHHHH! i LOVE that song... i sang it in choir in college, and have adored it ever since. now i have the beautiful melody in my head.. i just wish i could sing it like back in the day!
and i read your latest post, too. i'm so glad you had a day of laughing/playing, and that you were able to let go and do just that. i'm sure it was good for pumpkindoodle to see her mama doing just that.
oh, and this is totally bragging (shame on me, but we were conducted BY john gardner when we performed this song!!) even i understood the full import of that moment in chorale history!! :)
i have to completely amend my statement... it wasn't john gardner who directed us as we sang this song, but another cambridge director (maybe john R-something...) anyway i realize i goofed so totally had to 'fess up!
