TSMSS: Lamb Of God

This week I have been preparing my heart for Easter. Sometimes I wish that Easter had a "season" like Christmas does. A time when people prepare their hearts for the celebration to come. But while I think that the preparation time is beautiful....much of what we prepare for during the Christmas season is not spiritual. I do know that many Christians respect Lent and use that time to prepare their minds and spirits for the celebration of a miracle...a celebration of redemption...a celebration of an eternity with our glorious Creator.

When I think of Easter songs, the first one that comes to mind is Lamb of God by Twila Paris. The lyrics and music are so poignant, that they need no additional words from me. For More TSMSS, please visit Amy at Signs, Miracles and Wonders.

Your only Son
No sin to hide
But You have sent Him,
From Your side
To walk upon this guilty sod
And to become the Lamb of God

Your gift of Love
They crucified
They laughed and scorned him as he died
The humble King
They named a fraud
And sacrificed the Lamb of God

Chorus:
Oh Lamb of God, Sweet lamb of God
I love the Holy Lamb of God
Oh wash me in His precious Blood
My Jesus Christ the Lamb of God

I was so lost I should have died
But You have brought me to Your side
To be led by Your staff and rod
And to be called a lamb of God

Chorus

Oh wash me in His precious Blood
My Jesus Chris the Lamb of God

Wow it's really sneaked up on me this year--it would help if Easter would just stick to one particular day each year and then I'd always know when it would be.

Thank You for pointing me to Easter and my need to prepare. You are so right about it not having the place on our calendar that it deserves.

I love this song and hadn't heard it in a long time. My heart always breaks at the secular emphasis placed on this season and I just want to 'scream' it out what it really means, for people to get it...thank you!

First before I listen to your song (cuz I'll forget) I love your name and verse choice. It is somewhat similar to my choice and feelings concerning my blog. I am on a Journey to finding me through Him.
I am glad I came by for your song.
Blessings,
Sherry

My hope in 2009 is to be more intentional about all we do as a family. Last year fro Christmas we added doing a Jesse Tree and that was a blessing as we prepared for Christ. This year, for Easter I'm gathering and planning more-we have a bay due in a few weeks and are moving etc. It's hard to stay on something with all this going on-but all to say-you're right and what a blessing to focus on the Lord and be intentional about preparing our hearts! Thank you for sharing this message and song! Amanda:)

We are so blessed that the Lamb of God has grace enough for us all, in spite of all our weaknesses, our neglect of Him in our busy lives. Praise Him for all He has done and is doing for us all!

The early church created the church year as a series of feasts and preparations for the feasts, knowing that we as humans would appreciate the feast so much more if we were intentionally waiting for it. The two preparation periods that have survived are Advent and Lent, both penitential periods in which we deny ourselves in preparation for the arrival of the feast. In the highest of churches, there aren't even any Christmas decorations in the church until after the 4th Sunday in Advent, which is intended to focus on Spiritual things during that period.

I started observing Lent to some extent at Houghton. I recommend it to anyone who wants to intensify the Easter celebration. You can also celebrate a mini-Lent by fasting from midnight until Communion on a Sunday when your church celebrates the Lord's Supper. The bread and cup taste so much sweeter when you are really hungry, physically and spiritually.

My Lenten sacrifice this year has been particularly difficult, requiring much more reliance on grace than some others I have attempted. I *really* look forward to Easter!
