Let Me Have It

First off, I ask that you forgive my lackluster blogging efforts this week. One reason for such few posts is that I have been asked to write a weekly devotion for another Web site (I'll disclose which one in a week or two). Receiving this request both honored and humbled me. I know that I cannot write devotions without first spending serious time in God's word and quietly listening for His voice. If He isn't guiding my heart and my hands, I have no business writing.

Currently, for Becoming Me, I am working on part 3 of my PPD series and a piece about a time in my life when I was a fake without knowing it.

Along the lines of the devotions, I'd love to have your input as well. If you have the time to comment or e-mail me some feedback, I'll be most grateful. Here are a few questions, but please don't feel obligated to answer all or any of them.

1) Would you be more inclined to read a devotional series or have a different topic covered each week? By devotional series I mean that each week I would write a short devotion on a certain topic (such as anger, perfectionism, identity in Christ, spiritual growth, etc). You wouldn't need to read them all to understand the next one in the series. I think that each series would contain 3-5 devotions.

2) What topics would you like me to cover?

3) What type of format do you prefer?

4) Would you prefer a long, in-depth devotion each week or short ones that leave room for thought and study on your own?

5) Why do you read Becoming Me?

6) Anything else you'd like to add?

Thank you for your time. Blessings to all,
Angela

I'll answer for you. I like to help when I can.

1. I think that, if the series are short (as you suggested) that I would prefer a series. It allows you to go more in-depth without being bogged down all at once.

2. Topics: peace, forgiveness, prayer, joy

3. I like a concentration verse, short explanation, and verses with which to dig deeper.

4. If it's weekly, I like devotions that leave room for thought and study...but it would be nice to have direction in that study...i.e. Where do I look to go further with this?

5. Well, I've just started reading, so I'm still figuring that out for myself. But, I'm always eager to meet other Christian women to talk with and learn from.

1. I like the idea of a series such as you suggested. In my current state of forgetfulness, it would remind me to come back next week.
2. I like the topics you suggested!
3. Personally I prefer a story-type devotional. I learn best from other people's experiences. Then verses and questions to reflect on.
4. Short - I don't always have the time (or attention span) to read too much! :)
5. I read Becoming Me because I can see myself and my own faith walk in your stories. And it challenges me to become a better me myself!

1) A short series.
2) Regret, remorse, forgiveness, restoration, grace, joy, peace.
3) Ditto to what apple said.
4) Ditto apple.
5) Because I can relate to the depression side of life.
6) Just keep on bein you!

2) What topics would you like me to cover? - i'm interested in the ppd and learning to be happy with myself

3) What type of format do you prefer? short and verses... just my mama brain doesn't retain loads of information, so if it's to the point I can usually get something to sink in! I like print outs too!

5) Why do you read Becoming Me?
Because you're interesting, real, and I like knowing there are other women struggling as I am!

6) Anything else you'd like to add?
You're great! :)

I will be standing in the gap of prayer as you seek the Lord for guidance and confirmation. I know whatever he gives you will be a blessing to all come here to read your blog. I know I am blessed each time I visit. Hugz Lorie

Wow! This sounds like an awesome opportunity for you. I like the idea of a series. I also think the others who have left comments had some great topics! I'm some where in between wanting long and short. :) Short, becasue my time is limited and my brain has days where it functions minimaly. :) At the same time I know your content would be very quality, so I don't want to reduce a good thing. I read Becoming Me because you put words to the emotions most of us feel and don't have the vocabulary to articulate. You have a way of drawing in your readers and helping us to see ourselves, know we aren't alone, and give pratical insight for daily life....And I just think you are a super sweet and really great! :)

1. I like the idea of series. But it wouldn't always have to be a series. I think I'd like to know upfront (like what you've done with your PPD series) that this is #1 of 3, so I'm sure to follow up and stay plugged in.
2. Great topics already suggested along with the ones you had already listed.
3. Apple said it perfectly but it doesn't always need to be short for me.
4. I like a mix of the shorter and longer ones
5. The thing I like about Becoming Me is that you're real and honest- even about the really hard things. However, you're not lead by your emotions. You're truly grounded in scripture (which is so key) and continuously abiding in Christ and seeking His guidance. Last but not least, your writing is fabulous. You truly have a gift and the Lord is using it for His glory. That's why I keep coming back.
6. Keep being your awesome self. Keep letting God be the author through you and keep in touch with that humble, honest and wise person that you are. You are a safe place for us moms who need to hear it like it really is- not how it is on a magazine cover- which only leaves us feeling defeated.

How exciting for you! Congratulations, what a wonderful way to honor God. Here are my thoughts:
1. I always think that I would enjoy a series, but...I find that when my favorite writers are writing about a specific topic, I sometimes miss the things that drew me to their writing in the first place, e.g. their personality, personal attributes that tend to come out spontaneously. do you know what I mean? So, I guess what I'm saying is that I love to be informed about topics, but be careful not to neglect your writing voice in the process!
2. I love to read anything about giving my parenting walk more depth, ways to enhance my personal relationship with God, dealing with everyday hassles and rising above...
3. Something that has scripture quoted directly, of course, otherwise i'm open here.
4. the shorter the better for me. It stays with me longer and I have more time to ponder.
5. I enjoy your tender voice and sweet insights into godly living.
Good luck!

These ladies all have great suggestions! :) And I think the main thing is that you are right to pray and seek His will.

I love the pictures you posted! What a beautiful family you have and a beautiful heart for the Lord!!!!

Angela,
You have one of the sweetest souls of anyone I have ever known. Your strong & personal relationship with Christ will guide you into the right direction each time gear up to post. I think I can safely speak for everyone who "tunes in" on this blog that your honesty matched with impecable writing skills make all your posts something we can easily identify with from our own experience or painted so brilliantly through your words that we know exactly how you feel. I personally love what you have down with the PPD series. I would enjoy more of that.
Keep on keeping on!

Looking forward to reading that weekly devotion for the other website. How awesome! = )

Here are my two cents...in response to some of your questions...

I love the idea of short devotions on a different topic each week.

I prefer shorter over longer for a variety of reasons. Often I'm only on for a few minutes and if a post is too long, I don't even start reading it.

I read Becoming Me because it challenges me in my walk every time I read it. You have great insights, and I love your style of writing. (You're quite gifted!)

Thanks for giving us the chance to offer input. = )

Blessings,
Tracy

I think what keeps me here is that you are REAL. I especially like it when you tie in a scriptural lesson with a personal life experience, even if it just involves driving in a rainstorm. Those are the ones that truly speak to me.

Everything else (long versus short, topics, etc) is just icing on the cake, in my opinion.

Congrats on the new gig!

I would go with topical devotions on the shorter side. Hope this helps, friend!

Wow, I am thrilled for you, Angela.

I've been struggling to read blogs lately. My writing workload is full. So when I do take the time, I like shorter posts. Otherwise, I don't read them.

Topics: open. Like personal ones.

Thanks for taking the time to read my Laced with Grace devo today and for commenting.

Angela,
I write devotionals for a couple of bogs. What I have been doing is each month I just ask God what He is saying to me...what would He have me write on. Alot of times it is something fresh that I have been pondering in my own life or experiencing. Sometimes I just know of a topic. Follow your heart, you can't go wrong there.

Hope this helps! Can't wait to hear where you are writing...

Hugs,
Julie

1. I would like a short series as you mentioned 3-5 but that could be read individually as well.

2) Topics: forgiveness, Fruit of the Spirit, Holy Spirit

3) I like a main focus verse and then some sort of real-life application and some questions to apply it at the end.

4) short

5) I don't remember how I "found" you but you always have something nice and encouraging to say.

6) Anything else you'd like to add?
